Lifeguards work a minimum 4
hour shift. They take a 15 minute break every hour (with
some exceptions). During this break time, the lifeguard’s
first responsibility is to make sure the facility is clean
(including restrooms) and the pool chemistry is balanced.
After they have taken care of their responsibilities, the
lifeguard is free to make phone calls, rest, and eat.
